From July 7–10, 2025, BIP xTech UK proudly joined the NWG Innovation Festival (Northumbrian Water’s Innovation Festival) held at Newcastle Racecourse. This groundbreaking event brought together industry leaders, innovators, and environmental experts. Their mission: tackle one of the most pressing challenges in the water sector optimizing wastewater treatment through Generative AI.
The challenge: smarter, sustainable wastewater treatment
BIP xTech UK led the “ChemDo: Harnessing GenAI for Smarter Wastewater Treatment” headline Sprint, focused on the intricate and complex world of wastewater treatment. The goal? To explore how Generative AI can revolutionize chemical dosing and biological processes, unlocking new levels of efficiency, sustainability, and scalability.
What we achieved during the ChemDo Sprint
- Identified pain points and opportunities: we started by surfacing the biggest challenges in wastewater treatment. This helped us uncover where AI could create meaningful impact.
- Frame the use case: building on those insights, we collaboratively shaped a focused use case aligned with real operational needs.
- Define the business case: Through structured discussions, we established KPIs and success metrics to assess impact, feasibility, and value.
- Plan a pilot: we outlined a real-world trial to validate the solution and ensure it’s scalable and results-driven.
The ChemDo Sprint wasn’t just about brainstorming – it was a catalyst for action, driven by shared commitment and tangible outcomes.
With the festival’s theme of “Regeneration: Against All Odds”, ChemDo exemplified the power of collaboration and innovation in driving sustainable change. laying the groundwork for real-world applications of AI that will shape the future of wastewater treatment.
